Job Duties:   Store Manager with a Filipino Specialty Supermarket. Ensures effective implementation of company business plans, and attain financial projections, meet or exceed budget, and promote sales growth. Monitor popularity of products to ensure appropriate stock orders. Monitor all departments' purchase orders to ensure optimum sales. Oversee implementation of policies, procedures, standards, training programs. Achieve employee development, sales, service, and quality objectives. Responsible for supervisory and professional staff development. Prepare required compliance documentation. Monitor weekly cash flow budget. Ensure weekly schedules meet labor cost target. Strong knowledge of all relevant company policies regarding personnel. Administer prompt, fair, and consistent action for all violations of company policies, rules and procedures. Maintain compliance with all federal, state, county and municipal regulations that pertain to health, safety, and labor.

Education Requirements:   Bachelor’s degree in any field

Experience Requirement:   2 years

Established in 1989, Seafood City is a U.S.-based chain of full-service supermarkets with 32 locations across the United States.  We specialize in Filipino food and products, while offering a growing selection of imported Asian goods and North American staples. Each store contains a food court, which offers a variety of freshly prepared Filipino dishes. 

Seafood City launched its first Canadian store in Mississauga, Ontario, in 2017. Due to its resounding success, Seafood City has opened additional locations in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Calgary Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, and Scarborough, Ontario. 

To support the continued growth and success of our Winnipeg store, Seafood City Supermarket is looking for one experienced Cook to join our team.  You will be working at our Winnipeg store, located at 2311 McPhillips Street, Winnipeg, MB, R2V 3C9, Canada. 

This is a permanent, full-time position, based on 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime.

Position 

You will be responsible for preparing and cooking fresh Filipino dishes on behalf of the supermarket’s food court customers.  Your duties will include the following: 

  • Participate in training of new cooks and other kitchen staff;
  • Prepare authentic Filipino dishes such as Kare-kare, Mechadong Manok, Mechadong Baboy, Nilagang Baka, Sabaw ng Bulalo, Pinoy Bistek, Laing na Dahon ng Gabi, Dinengdeng, Pinakbet or Pakbet, Pinapaitan or Papaitan, Binagoongang Baboy, Escabecheng Isda, Tinolang Manok, Adobong Manok, Adobong Baboy, Adobong Manok at Baboy, Beef Tapa, Pork or Chicken Tocino, Daing na Bangus, Sinigang na Isda, Sinigang na Baboy, Sinigang na Baka, Bopis, Kandinga, Dinuguan, La Paz Bachoy, and Apritadang Manok;
  • Cook specified portions of food items as instructed by the Head Cook;
  • Prepare dishes according to company standards and procedures;
  • Operate and maintain large-volume cooking equipment such as grills, deep fryers, micro steamers, Chinese Wok, convection and conventional ovens, food processor, slicers, etc. in accordance with safety and sanitation standards;
  • Adhere to prescribed workflow, operating cycles, and work schedules;
  • Maintain inventory of food and supplies;
  • Observe strict food safety standards and regulations in the handling and preparation of dishes;
  • Respond to customer inquiries, as required.
  • Clean and sanitize work area and equipment in accordance with health and safety standards and regulations; and

Qualifications 

We are looking for candidates who can meet the following minimum requirements: 

  • Completion of secondary school;
  • At least three years of commercial cooking experience;
  • Experience in preparing authentic Filipino dishes such as Kare-kare, Mechadong Manok, Mechadong Baboy, Nilagang Baka, Sabaw ng Bulalo, Pinoy Bistek, Laing na Dahon ng Gabi, Dinengdeng, Pinakbet or Pakbet, Pinapaitan or Papaitan, Binagoongang Baboy, Escabecheng Isda, Tinolang Manok, Adobong Manok, Adobong Baboy, Adobong Manok at Baboy, Beef Tapa, Pork or Chicken Tocino, Daing na Bangus, Sinigang na Isda, Sinigang na Baboy, Sinigang na Baka, Bopis, Kandinga, Dinuguan, La Paz Bachoy, and Apritadang Manok;
  • Experience using large-volume cooking equipment such as grills, deep-fryers, micro steamers, Chinese Wok, convection and conventional ovens, food processor, and slicers;
  • Manual dexterity for cutting, chopping, and plating;
  • No allergies to food items, ingredients, and cleaning products;
  • Able to stand and move quickly for multiple hours;  
  • Able to carry up to 25lbs and occasionally lift up to 50lbs; and
  • Basic ability to communicate in English (spoken and written).

Compensation 

We offer a competitive compensation package, which includes the following: 

  • Wage: $15.80 per hour, based on 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week (wages are subject to periodic and incremental raises)
  • Overtime Rate: $23.70 per hour, after 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week
  • 10 days of vacation per year
  • Roundtrip transportation costs for out of province applicants
  • Private health care insurance coverage for out of province applicants (equal to the Manitoba provincial health insurance plan) until such a time that the applicant is eligible for Manitoba provincial health insurance.

Position 

You will be responsible for preparing fish and seafood products for display and sale in our supermarket.  Your duties will include the following: 

  • Participate in training of new fish cleaners;
  • Prepare special cuts of fish for use in Filipino dishes such as Dinaing na Bangus, Relyenong Bangus, and Sisig na Bangus;
  • Respond to customer inquiries, and make product recommendations;
  • Prepare ready-to-cook fish and seafood dishes for purchase using Filipino and Asian seasonings;
  • Operate and maintain cutting tools (e.g. cleavers, knives, and bandsaw) and cleaning equipment (e.g. water hoses and valves, scale removers, and auto cleaners) in accordance with safety and sanitation standards;
  • Observe strict food safety standards and regulations in the thawing, handling, preparation and processing of fish and seafood products;
  • Assist with seafood deliveries by transferring, stocking and organizing products inside walk-in cooler and freezers.
  • Clean, cut, trim, de-bone, fillet and butterfly large fish and seafood carcasses according to company and customer specifications;
  • Arrange fish and seafood in display cases, rotate products, and restock as required to meet customer needs;
  • Clean and sanitize work area and equipment in accordance with health and safety standards and regulations; and

Qualifications 

We are looking for candidates who can meet the following minimum requirements: 

  • Completion of secondary school;
  • At least three years of experience cleaning and handling fish and seafood products in a retail setting;
    • At least three years of experience preparing specialty cuts of fish for use in Filipino dishes such as Dinaing na Bangus, Relyenong Bangus, and Sisig na Bangus;
    • Experience using fish cleaning tools, such as knives and de-scalers;
    • Manual dexterity for cutting, filleting and deboning fish;
    • Able to work in cold temperatures for extended periods of time;
    • Able to lift up to 75lbs with assistance on a frequent basis; and
    • Basic ability to communicate in English (spoken and written).
